An exhibition of prints by Stephen Lawlor

Stephen describes his work an ongoing engagement with European painting from roughly 1400 to 1800.

"I appropriate elements from carefully selected paintings and combine and juxtapose them through loose mark making with needle, acid and brush. Between landscape and the human form, abstraction and figuration my prints explore and open up something in our collective memory of images that can be familiar or obscure, ghost-remnants of icons that stretch backward in time. I see them as small windows onto a hazy, collective subconscious."

We are fortunate to have Stephen's prints in Gallery 68. He has had solo exhibitions in, among other places,  Sweden, Spain and New Mexico and group shows from London to Beijing, from Sydney to Stockholm. He was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in London, and a member of Aosdana in 2018. And much more.
